I fear my son might be undiagnosed bipolar. He is being treated for anxiety and depression, but he has really bad mood swing. His sleep is erratic and seems to have fits of anger. Some times he will go days without sleep. I wish his psychiatrist would look more closely to see if he is indeed bipolar. He is about the age I was when I was first diagnosis as being bipolar.

Could you suggest to the psy. to look more closely? Or is that a no no?
JBR,
It might be worth a try.
He should definitely have this possibility checked out. I was misdiagnosed for years as having "depression with anxiety" when in fact I have bipolar II. The angry outbursts are a big sign of possible undiagnosed bipolar. I used to fly into rages very easily. It embarrasses me to remember.
It's so hard when one of the kids is having trouble.

Can you get another opinion if the psych doc does not seem to have been doing enough to evaluate and treat your son? God bless.
You can always seek a second opinion from another doctor.
I will be praying.
Blessings, andrea
Depending on whether he is over or under 18 years, maybe it is worth considering talking to his psychiatrist or to him about it. The goal is to get him the best help he can get, right?
Even though you are worrying about your son, don't forget to take care of yourself. You deserve it.

The possibility that your son may be bipolar is Very present, and I would think is Definitely something the pdoc should look into for him, especially with the kind of symptoms you are describing. I have been reading 'A Brilliant Madness' by Patty Duke and Gloria Hochman, (Hochman is apparently some kind of expert on bipolar) and from this book it sounds very common, actually pretty much known that our illness is hereditary. Even more interesting, is that according to the book, the mother's hereditary can play quite a bit in it - but that's not for you to feel guilty about, maybe just vigilant and watchful like you obviously are. And like another commenter said, don't forget to take care of you, because, Dear Wanda, you very much matter.:)
Wanda, thank you so much for the loving thoughts you have left for me. They mean so much to me.
Sincerely,
Tart
Hi,
I wish you luck and steady course with this path. It is important it seems, to me, that a parent identify with their child as deeply as you do, and us bloggers, as deeply as I do with you.
My therapy, and meds have been very liberating, and calming to me, I hope you're well,
Jesse
((((Wanda)))I am so sorry that you and your son are dealing with this.
